WHO IS TEXE MARRS?

Texe Marrs is a Christian Sensationalist Author who has been described elsewhere on the web as "A self-styled apologist known for his sensationalistic, poorly-documented and purely speculative claims.  He disseminates conspiracy theories, hype, and other unbalanced information like KFC sells Chicken...."

He has also passed himself off as an Expert on Cults and The Occult of which, in our opinion, he knows very little except what he's read in the newspaper.   He references other authors who reference each other and the Bible, and they too lack real knowledge.

He has a 'ministry', formerly called "Living Truth Ministries".  In 1999, it underwent a name change to "Power of Prophesy Ministries" when they allegedly lost their tax exempt status from the IRS for allegedly mis-managing funds.

They have a Web Page and their Newsletter has featured tirades on such diverse subjects as "German and Russian Air Forces Active in USA", "World of Prophecy", "Please Pray for Terry Cook," and more. 

He is very active against Freemasonry which seems to him to be not only wrong from a religious standpoint but also because it's part of the "New World Order".  He also rails mightily against those government conspiracies which the US seems to be concocting to single him out for unfair treatment.

Texe Marrs has always supported a Conservative Christian position especially when it comes to Church and State issues.  It is apparent from the documents and data we have collected, that the first amendment may be in danger from his past and future actions.

It is best to investigate on your own when looking at allegations about anyone.    Don't believe us, think for yourself and investigate for yourself!  And remember, the First Amendment and Religious Freedom Coalitions and their staff do not represent any particular religion, political party nor do we recommend any political candidate, nor are we involving ourselves in the political process.    We are the Watchdog of the Religious Right in this country.  We will not let those we consider to be enemies of freedom of religion, go unnoticed.

HAS TEXE MARRS JOINED THE WORLD OF THE CULTS?

Has author Texe Marrs joined the world of the cults in the release of a tape called Abominations of the Alexandrian Cult? It would appear so. The Alexandrians, according to Texe, are those who don't believe that the King James Bible is the only true, error-free Bible.  On his new tape he lists those leaders who don't hold to his view as non-believers headed for hell and also holds that he, and a figurative 7000 people are the only ones who will be saved. Below are excerpts from his 1998 audiotape:

"If you come up against the Word of God, my friend, and you attempt to corrupt the Word of God, your destiny is assured, because you are going to have a ringside seat at the very fires of hell.... Everyone, to one degree or another, who endorse the false new Bible versions have embraced this deceitful new teaching. They have to, because it goes hand in hand with the acceptance of the RSV, the NAS, the NLT, the NIV and all the other acronym - I call them alphabet army - new bibles. They bring to you, my friends, a heretical philosophy that has already corrupted entire churches, has ripped apart denominations, savaged seminaries and bible colleges, and, and, caused millions of lost people to be damned to hell forever. It’s not enough that these men, their destiny, is the pit of hell. No, because they corrupt the Word of God, they cause millions of other human beings, maybe billions, to go right down into perdition with them. And it’s all because these men and women of these end times are practicing an abomination which I call the abomination of the Alexandrian cult...Yes, there is a cult today. It is a cult operating in the Christian church, and in fact, it masquerades AS the Christian church. I want you to understand, it is not the Christian church, for the bible says that the very gates of hell cannot withstand the Christian church.

"...The fact is, this Alexandrian cult has a foul and most wicked teaching. But unfortunately, it is accepted by almost every pastor and ministry leader in the world today. Every big-name ministry believes in this devilish, Alexandrian cult. Now, I know some of you are going to write to me and say, "Texe, are you saying that you’re the only one that has the truth?"  YES, I’m telling you right now. I, and a symbolic 7000, I don’t know who are out there are in this 7000, and I’m not saying there are exactly 7000, but you know the Bible talks about the 7000 who would not bow to Baal....And today this is where we’re at in terms of the history of the Christian church....Meanwhile, there are perhaps seven million, seven hundred million, maybe it goes past the hundreds of millions of people, who have bowed to Baal in choosing false bibles.

"Among the Alexandrians, among those who are idol-makers, who present themselves as superior to the Word of God, and who have divorced themselves from the true bible are such men as Pope John Paul II, Billy Graham, Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, John MacArthur, Jack Van Impe, Paul Crouch, John Ankerberg, Peter Lalonde, Bill McCartney, Dave Hunt, Arnold Frosa, Tony Campolo, Hal Lindsay, James Dobson, Robert Schuller, W.A. Criswall, Norman Geisler, Chuck Colson, Bill Bright, Hank Hanegraaff, James White, Louis Palau, Carlton Pearson, Dave Breese, Tim LaHaye, and that’s only a partial list. But, you say, Texe Marrs, those are all the biggest names of the Christian church today! No, not of the Christian church. Let's just say, of the false Christian church.

"..I’m at the point now where these men, I’m separating from these men. Many people say to me, "Texe, you’re separating yourself from the Billy Grahams, and the Pope John Paul the seconds, and the Pat Robertsons?" Yes, I am, because it says in 2 Corinthians, Chapter 6, verses 14 through 18, 'Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers, for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness.'

"Now, friends, when a man or a woman brings a false doctrine that says that God’s Word is not pure. When they say you cannot trust God’s Word. When they tell you there is no bible you can hold in your hands and rely on as absolute and perfect and pure, these people are unbelievers, or they would not be casting doubt on the Word of God, and I say to them as Jesus said, 'It must needs be that offenses come, but woe to that man by whom the offense cometh.'"

HAS TEXE MARRS SET HIMSELF UP AS A FALSE PROPHET?

The first day of a particular century or millennium has always brought waves of religious paranoia with them. It seems people place more importance on and heed the superstitions of the arrival of years equally divisible by 100, than they do scriptures. The turning of centuries has always brought doom and gloom paranoia.

Adding to the problem for the recent century turnover is that it was a millennial turnover as well. And if that wasn't bad enough, there were the Y2K computer problems that many organizations were still rushing to fix on December 31, 1999.  These 2 things increased the religious paranoia exponentially! We had warnings from major ministries such as psychologizers Focus on the Family, and Jack Van Impe (The so-called prophecy expert!)

One might have expected this paranoia from infamous date-setters such as the Jehovah's Witnesses who have prepared for the non-existent Y1874, Y1914, Y1925 and Y1975 problems but they seemed to have passed on the Y2K insanity.  No, instead, it is certain sections of evangelicalism that were crying "the sky is falling! the sky is falling!"

The Y2K prophets said that there was a great possibility that computers would fail simultaneously and there would be a mysterious and disastrous chain of events that would cause society to cease to function.  All services would be terminated. All stores would close. Looting would be universal. The food stores would be the battlegrounds of the most vicious fighting and bloodshed as people recognized the shortage would be in necessities.

A main promoter of the 2000 devastations was Texe Marrs. His name is one which strikes fear of "guilt by association" in the hearts of many Christian KJV-supporters who wished to distance themselves from his vain imaginative ramblings. He has a unique flavor of fantasy about his writings.

Texe Marrs' website is chock full of his vain imaginations. Here are some examples where the main topic is his bizarre imaginations.

"Nine is the ultimate occult number, containing within itself the number of the beast, 666 (6+6+6=18 and 1+8=9). Now, Texe Marrs reveals the nine great movements"

9 may be an occult number but can you possibly connect that to 666 in the way Texe Marrs did with God putting the 666 in the Bible to expose 9 movements? How many things has Texe somehow mathematically connected with 666? Maybe I'm at a Satanic age because I'm 30 years old? You know 6 * 6 - 6 = 30!!!! How about 7? 6/6 + 6 = 7. How about 5? 6 - 6/6 = 5? How about 2? (6 + 6) / 6 = 2. Are they occultic numbers too?

How the IRS controls the Christian Churches.
Example 15.  You can not express an opinion on any subject or issue.
Example 32.  You can not expose false teachings of any kind by anyone.

(FALSE: fortunately the IRS cannot stop any non-profit organization from expressing an opinion.)

"The Government" are the elected officials in power.  If they are Republican we have a history of giving control of our "state" religion to the Christian Church.  If they are Democrat, we have a history of Freedom of Religion.    The government is not out to get Texe Marrs.

Texe Marrs was also big into the Y2K paranoia. Texe Marrs taught how to "survive" Y2K!!! You heard me correctly!!! Writings on how to SURVIVE!!!

We received Texe's free newsletter in November 1999.  Inside it, he fully promoted the level of doom and gloom, claiming that he had received divine revelation that there would be nationwide food shortages.  Enclosed was an advertisement where paranoid followers could order 3, 6, or 12 month reserve food supplies for 1 or 2 people.

Y2K holocaust food supplies for the superstitious

As far as I know, Texe Marrs is not associated with the Charismatic movement or wishes to be. However,  due to his self-proclamation as a Y2K prophet. On the reverse side of the above advertisement, Texe Marrs declares himself a prophet six (occultic number) times. Texe Marrs' predictions now would have to be fulfilled with 100% accuracy! Texe Marrs had set himself up to be a false prophet, which were verifiable in the year 2000. See his prophetic claims for yourself  below.

TEXE MARRS SELF-PROCLAMATION OF BEING A PROPHET

The Y2K problem was simple. In the 60's data storage was expensive. Saving 2 digits on each record meant a lot of savings for companies. Now data storage is cheap and labor to change your coding is expensive. It was cheaper to continue a new product the same way than to correct the old.

In January 2000 computers went to years that require more digits, which it was assumed a lot of computer software would fail to produce correct results due to comparisons of dates. However, despite the warnings of the Y2K alarmists, they were corrected in time with few problems.

While there were few small and insignificant problems, the doom and gloom described by Texe Marrs was absurd and did not happen! There was no need for the stockpile of food. Here's 2 main reasons:

#1 - Y2K programming errors did not cause entire computer systems to shut-down. Some applications produced erroneous data but computer black-outs absolutely did not happen.

#2 - Many Y2K problems had already occurred. (did you have a hard time finding food?) Mortgages, credit cards, etc... have expiration dates beyond 2000. Problems occurred and inconvenienced a few people. Most were corrected quickly. Most you probably didn't even hear about.

As we can not find anything in the Bible that even remotely suggests the happenings described by Texe Marrs, his prophesy fell on deaf ears. Speaking again by logic and not revelation, he was proven to be a false prophet.  We will reduce it down to his one main requirement that must be fulfilled. Was there a nationwide food shortage in 2000?

Many of Christian's faith ware shaken when Texe Marrs' words fell to the ground.  We of the Religious Freedom Coalition are used to seeing Christian Charismatics embarrassing their followers. Now its time for someone closer to fundamentalism to take his turn.  Texe Marrs failed.  He is a false prophet, false Occult Expert, and false role model.

Of course, reading his January 1999 newsletter at his web site explains that the name change is as a result of some major conflicts with the US Internal Revenue Service - a conflict which no doubt fuels his conspiracy theories! Comparing the IRS to Hitler's Germany, Castro's Cuba or Stalin's Russia, Marrs writes:

THE UNTRUTH

"Unbelievable as it may seem, the IRS made it plain to us that, as a 501(c)3 organization, Living Truth Ministries will not be allowed to even publicly express an "opinion" unless acceptable to them. They alone will judge if what we say is "factual information." They literally told us that in writing. We also have been warned that it may be a violation to identify threats to Christianity or to American freedoms. We have especially been advised to shut up and remain silent about conspiracies, the United Nations, the Vatican, the New World Order, and the New Age Movement.

"The IRS says that we cannot expose or disparage New Age cults and occult religions. The IRS rules also prohibit us from teaching the whole counsel of Bible prophecy for the end-times. That, says the IRS, is "sensationalism" and is forbidden of churches and Christian ministries."

In fact, in an extensive condemnation of the Internal Revenue Service, Marrs asks:

"Does the IRS hate the Gospel and despise Bible-believing Christians? Has the IRS become a police-state agency that regularly persecutes churches, pastors, and ministries that still believe in old-fashioned patriotism?

"Listed below are 35 things the IRS contends are prohibited of churches and ministries. A pastor or
ministry leader who violates the guidelines of the IRS on these 35 prohibitions can have his church
or group's tax exemption revoked and be dealt with harshly by the IRS."

One item he lists - interestingly - is

"24. Criticize the Masonic Lodge, the Order of Skull & Bones, or other Secret societies."

THE TRUTH

It has been reported by various sources that in 1999 the IRS investigated Texe Marrs' activities regarding allegations that he had abused his IRS-approved tax-exempt 501(c)(3) authorization by mismanaging the ministry funds of Living Truth Ministries.  The source goes on to say that after successive audits, the IRS determined that Texe Marrs was guilty of abusing his tax-free status, and subsequently revoked Living Truth Ministries' tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status! Accordingly, it is reported that during 1999, Texe Marrs' Living Truth Ministries was ordered closed and Marrs' Flashpoint Newsletter was shut down.  (We have requested additional documentation from the IRS which will expand our knowledge of Mr. Marrs' activities.  If we find anything more of substance, we will of course report it here.

But in order to save face about this very embarrassing and unethical situation, in our opinion, Mr. Marrs has been playing fast and loose with the truth saying that the he "voluntarily surrendered his tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status after the IRS harassed him for being critical of the Clinton Administration.  He might have surrendered his 501 (c)(3) status, but in our opinion it was not voluntary! The available facts are that Marrs'"ministry" was shut down because he had been accused of various violations of the IRS code regarding inappropriate operational abuses of his tax-exempt status. Apparently, "living Truth Ministries" had not been quite so truthful about what it has been doing with ministry money!

Was this the end of Texe Marrs. Of course not! There is way too much money to be made in this "business" for Marrs to simply quit and walk away. Indeed, he surfaced again as a new "for-profit" organization called Power of Prophecy.

In light of these facts, should good people be foolish enough to have anything more to do with such an apparently unethical person?  Indeed, what should be done with a man who mercilessly slanders others while he is himself shows evidence of being a typical hypocritical, egotistical, and greedy bender-of-truth?  I'll let you be the judge.

Finally, documents show that that Texe Marrs was sued in 1991 for libel, slander, RICO, extortion, etc. What do you think about that? What a terrific christian, huh?!

Quite active in the sales of his many tapes and books, one of his works was titled "Days of Hunger, Days of Chaos?" Can it be mere coincidence that he was also involved in selling packaged food to help stave off these 'end-times' which he predicted would arrive on 1/1/2000?  In fact, you could buy a one year supply of food for one person (182 items!!! - which, by our count - is going to make 3 meals a day for 365 days awfully meager) for only $2,395 (plus freight of $150).

Of course given his tremendous mistake and error in prophecying the End Times as being 1/1/2000, I think you will still be able to pick up a lot of freeze dried food real cheap!!!!

Now you will understand a little bit more about why, many people alledge that Texe Marrs milked his former contributors for all he could, and used his 501 C-3 tax exempt status to build a empire on earth for himself.

NOTE; This home was sold on December 5,1996, for $168,980. Apparently, the money Texe & Wanda Marrs gained from the sale of this property was used as a down payment for their new 4,846 square foot residential property located at 800 Elder Circle, Austin, Texas, as indicated below in Item 3,

The article was cynically titled, "PLEASE PRAY FOR TERRY COOK"!

NOTE: Susan Trunchan Marrs, a Thai, is the EX-WIFE of Texe Marrs. They met in Thailand in 1965 and were married in 1967. They were divorced on August 23, 1977 in Beaumont, Texas, Jefferson County Court case number 98215C. On April 27, 1994, Texe and his present wife, Wanda, loaned Susan $36,529.68. The loan was secured by a promissory note and deed of trust against the above real estate. In addition to the above property, Susan Trunchan Marrs owns a business in Austin, Texas, called Suzie's Beauty Salon, located at 5742 Burnet Road, Austin, Texas 78756, phone number (512) 4S9-5945.

NOTE: This land is zoned for commercial use. Apparently, this prime vacant land is Living Truth Ministries' proposed new office site.

S. Court system.

Our Original Web Master, an associate died from a threat by a person  who did not appreciate Religious Freedom.  Before she died, she asked us to continue her Religious Freedom Page.  We will.  Even though we have been attacked by Right Wing extremists, pseudo-Christian apologists, and other fringe elements of the Christian Right and Left, we still exist because of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.   We have been threatened by some, that we will be sued for exposing religious bigotry and hate.  Since we have no assets, but a great deal of voluntary legal support, we will welcome each attempt to silence us, as an opportunity to expose, in open court, the characteristics and lies of these so called "religiouis leaders."  We will feel free to request an extensive production of documents.

Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson, who were deists (not Christians), helped frame the Constitution of The United States of American and placed language in the First Amendment to guarantee Religious Rights for all Americans.  We will uphold that tradition.
